Not To Be Missed PLEASE re DEPRESSION : "MY RABBI" (Michael Shefrin of Temple Emman-uel in Sarasota) addresses a painful and personal issue in his Yom Kippur address.

 Please don't miss this.  It is a powerful and courageous word to the people of Temple Emman-uel in Sarasota, AND  to the peoples of many  Christian, Jewish and Muslim Congregations.

Rabbi Shefrin's address also has a particular truth for the Rabbis/ Priests/ Ministers/Imams who lead our various and sundry religious communities. 

We the Rabbis, Priests, Ministers and Imams know so much of what he speaks:  "Show me a religious leader who does not live with Depression". (jmp)

I am glad to name Rabbi Shefrin as a  friend and colleague.




His courageous truth  "speaks to my condition".  


Read  or watch his Yom Kippur 2021 C.E. address.  It is utterly powerful, and deeply honest. 

Thus it is "Tikun";  i.e. HEALING!

I've not been able to find a way to delete the story I wrote about Micky very many years ago.  It's one of life's minor annoyances. The background   I have known the Keller/Bonsey family since 2000 when I became the Rector at St. James's, Cambridge, MA. They (Elisabeth Keller and the Revd. Steven Bonsey with their four children Noah, Sam, Josiah and Annie) had come back to Cambridge from Hawaii where Steve had been the Rector of an Episcopal parish. Steve had just been appointed as a Chaplain at Tufts University (no Sunday morning duties) so the entire family was able to enrich our common life at St. James's - which they did with great love and joy. I count them as friends and have stayed in touch with them since my retirement.  Noah, the oldest son is eloquent in Arabic (he spent a year in Damascus when Syria was a safe place).  He has developed a super career as an analyst of social media in the near East.    Noah worked in Tampa for a while a few years ago, so he and I were a...

It began in Bristol U.K. "A man dies" and "Jesus Christ Superstar"
