The Silliness Continues. This time via Jessica.

Image
I've known Jessica K  for many years.  She and her family were part of the St. Stephen's Parish, Pittsfield. MA congregation. I knew her as a sweet and a bit shy young woman; and as a splendid acolyte.  Jessica is now a smart and very funny woman. Her humour is droll. She posted this which tickled me pink. I Love to be Silly (are you surprised?) (Mike the Plumber?)

Image
I had a severe water leak in my Laundry Room the other day. Before I called a plumber I  did some extensive work to trace the source of the leak: building dams etc.  with old beach towels. Better for me to find the source than to pay a plumber to do so. I succeeded, and the consequent repair was remedied at a cost of just below $700. I am proud of my detective work. So much so, that today I arrived for an outdoors lunch with my friends in my 'Mike The Plumber" garb. Tee Hee!  Silly me!

19th January HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US

Image
It was only three years ago, but it feels like a lifetime. On 19th January 2018 Zion came into my life. He had been found wandering the streets of Lafayette, La; a stray weighing only 40 lbs. He had not been chipped, and he did not wear a collar.  He had a minor flesh wound.  He is now 70 lbs. and in perfect health  (He had his annual check up last week) The Humane Society of Sarasota County had imported him from Louisiana.  After being neutered and cured of heart worm he came into my life. It was love at first sight.  I played no role in his training; he came to me "ready made". Zion   (probably a mix between a Spaniel and a Great Pyrenees) has brought such deep joy to me; and to many others.  His Canine Therapy work in the memory units of Retirement Homes (before COVID 19); and more recently at two Sarasota County High Schools,  has been exemplary.  He spreads joy here, there, and everywhere. He is my anchor to sanity and to smiles; to hope and to peace. He is the finest

His Photo' Will be in Most American Newspapers Today. But Not this One

18th January 2021.  In the U.S.A. "The Revd. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day" Today Dr. King will be lionised in the mainstream media.  He will be hailed as a prophet; a tireless worker for Civil Rights; a brave and courageous leader.  The High Priest of non-violent civil disobedience and protest. Many reporters and commentators will not get beyond the section of a long speech by Dr. King; commonly known as the "I have a dream speech"  as if he never said or wrote anything else.  I call it the "safe Dr. King Speech"  - safe that is for those who wish to tame the legacy of this great man. He was never safe.  He called the whole American enterprise into judgement. For that he was mocked, derided, hated, beaten, imprisoned. There was a violent hatred for Dr. King and the movement he helped to lead; in the North and in the South. For that he was assassinated. I write this lest on this day we all get dewy eyed about the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.;  but

More Light in the Darkness (Kirkridge Retreat and Conference Centre 2)

Another song of hope, peace and light which we sang at the retreat for gay men at Kirkridge. We often sang some verses in English and others in French. (It came via a United Church of Canada song book "Songs for a Gospel People"). https://youtu.be/aYXMcyBZTaE Text as sung may not be exactly like the text as printed below. But which ever version, this was always a song of commitment and faith for my gay brothers at the Kirkridge Retreats. The song often haunts and enriches my life. I have teary eyes even as I read the text tonight (Jan 17th 2021) 1  Lord Jesus, you shall be my song as I journey; I'll tell everybody about you wherever I go: you alone are our life and our peace and our love. Lord Jesus, you shall be my song as I journey. 2  Lord Jesus, I'll praise you as long as I journey; May all of my joy be a faithful reflection of you. May the earth and the sea and the sky join my song. Lord Jesus, I'll praise you as long as I journey. 3  As long as I live, Jes
