I was caught red handed-------------

Image
----------   when I peeled cooked beets in the prep to make BORSCHT. Goodness me, I've never before eaten borscht, let alone made it.  But "something" urged me to hone my cooking skills by making borscht today : some for me:  some for my friends Jack, Donna and Ashley,  and some for my friend Muriel Q By golly it looks good; and it tastes even better than it looks. No thanks to me - except for the ability to read and follow a recipe. (below). " Ra ra ra" for Russian and Ukrainian peasant food. https://www.simplyrecipes.com/recipes/borscht/#recipe6191

The End of the Washer Dryer Saga

Image
The water leak in my laundry room (fortunately separated from the main part of my Condo) having been solved; I set out to purchase a new washing machine and dryer. "New?" you said.  So did I.  New appliances  (bottom of the range) would have set me back some $1300. Pre-owned is my style (and fits my budget). Sarasota's  "Appliance Max"   to the rescue!  I am now the glad owner of a pre-owned washer and dryer for the modest sum of $549; delivered and installed. A local rather than a Big Box purchase. Why buy new when pre-owned will outlive you? "Maytag"  a pretty good brand. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'll have to go to school to figure out the controls!

Yummy Lunch 28th Jan 2021

Image
Lunch today and for the next couple of days.  My intuitive recipe. Baked Cod and Steamed Cauliflower; m ashed together.  Two raw eggs and a one third  cup of bread crumbs added to bind the fish and cauliflower.  Remoulade sauce added for flavour.   Baked for thirty or so minutes at 365.       Pretty darn good (even 'though I say it myself!)

Even the cranky old Green Line (Boston) ,,,,,,

A Great Start to Monday 25th Jan 2021 too.(Church stuff)

Faithful readers will have noted my post about my great start to the day on Sunday 24th:- https://jmichaelpovey-retiredpoveinsarasota.blogspot.com/2021/01/sunday-24th-january-2021-great-start-to.html Today I also had a great start, but in a different way.  As I browsed the internet early this morning I happened upon a wonderful video of a German hymn.  English speaking Christians will know the words and the tune from a fairly well known hymn,  "Holy God we praise Thy name" .  In truth the hymn is a paraphrase (by a German Catholic Priest) of the ancient Christian text called the "Te Deum".   You'd have to be an Anglican/Episcopalian of my vintage to remember when we sang or said  the Te Deum as a part of the now almost dead service of Morning Prayer. That aside, Anglicans, Lutherans and Protestants often sing "Holy God we praise Thy name" at a dirgy pace. Back to this morning.  I was stirred and energised at the start of the day when I came across t
