Povey Prattle

  Earlier this week I was at my Dermatological Surgeon's Office for out-patient  MOHS surgery (now almost routine for me). After the first cut I retired to a nice little waiting room, where beverages and snacks are at hand. I rarely drink apple juice but in this case I chose and enjoyed a 10oz bottle of  the Tropicana brand.  ( Tropicana's main processing and bottling plant is in Bradenton, FL., not very far from my home). In an idle moment I read the label.   "Apple Juice" had conjured up images of family owned apple orchards in New England, New York (State) and Washington (State). But this is what I read: Contains juice from Brazil, Chile, China, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine and U.S. Those juices do not get to Bradenton by magic. They are shipped across the oceans  to Port Manatee. Carbon imprint, global warming, climate change anyone? Is it worth it for year round Apple Juice? ( I am not picking on Tropicana.  I am sure that many other Juice Companies ha

  Well he was sleeping until I turned my 'phone camera on! My question is this,  Am I the only Dog (or Cat) owner who takes the longer route in our homes when the Dog or Cat blocks the way?

  Though still officially a Christian I am very much attracted to Judaism.  I have been hanging out at this Temple for a few years.  I have the greatest respect for their Rabbis; Brenner Glickman (l) and Michael Shefrin (r); and for the work of the congregation.   Felled at Arlington Park, Sarasota  in a recent storm; then cut up by city workers. I call it the Boris Johnson Tree.  "Looks tough on the outside.  Is hollow on the inside".

    8 oz brass weight.  Remember these? Yesterday (26th June 2021) I was at the fish counter at Detwiler's Market. I decided to be silly.   Who me?  Being silly?  Hard to believe eh! I asked the young fishmonger to cut me half a pound of cod. I added "if you can't make it exactly half a pound then eight ounces will do" He gave me a quizzical look and said "but isn't eight ounces the same as half a pound?"   Then he saw the silly grin on my face.  I told him that I was just making sure that he was fully awake. He went on to tell me that I'd probably never believe the dumb questions he is asked, so he wasn't quite sure about mine.  We both enjoyed a moment of laughter. A few minutes later as I stood in the check out line.  I felt a tap on my shoulder.   It was the fishmonger. He said  "thank you very much. It's customers like you who make my day". We exchanged fist bumps and big smiles. After that I may well be silly again one day!

Abraham Lincoln certainly said it; but he probably did not invent it.   If you are your own Doctor you have a fool for a client??? I've been doing a bit of self diagnosis.  It occurred to that the orthotics I bought at Happy Feet Plus (that's NOT the naughty place I've mentioned to some) could be exacerbating the pain from my sacroiliitis. So I am walking without them and my pain is somewhat mitigated. However my PCP (GP) suggested that I should use this (with care) for pain relief. Yep, it's helping  .....      maybe!! I should arrange for a double blind test by some orthopedic pain research facility.
