Today Is NATIONAL (or INTERNATIONAL) DOG DAY

Image
I have no idea how or why these days are named, but I'll go with the flow. This is OSO, a 126 lbs. Great Pyrenees who went missing in El Paso, TX on July 2nd.  I have no idea if he has been located -  I hope so. My dear Zion is only 68 lbs.  I have long believed that he is partly a Great Pyrenees.  Those of you who have met Zion, or seen photo's of him will surely agree that this photo' of OSO looks very much like a larger version of my dear boy. Thanks to Ashley L for putting me on to the photo' of  OSO.

A TALE OF TWO TABLES: Sublime and Mundane

SUBLIME British people of my generation  (b.1944) never ate Rabbit meat (which had been a staple for rural and poor city folks for many years). We did not eat it because the U.K. rabbit population had been all but destroyed by a horrible disease called  Myxomatosis   which had been imported by British Farmers (or so the story goes). My first   close  up  encounter  in  with rabbit meat was in the 1980's when I was   in Ravenna, Italy vi siting my Palestinian/Italian friends, alongside my American friend Joe . Our host  (Hani) announced   "We have Rabbit as a special treat for dinner tonight" Joe and I were not inclined to think of Rabbit meat as a "special treat" ! I did not eat Rabbit meat again until a couple of months ago when I dined with friends at the fabulous Sarasota restaurant MeLange.  There I savoured Rabbit Tacos, a special treat indeed. My friend Barbara F.C whose daughter Lan is a co-owner of MeLange describes them thus: You know you're cravi

Use Up Them Over-ripe Bananas

From Archana's Kitchen   I doubled the quantities 2 Ripe Bananas , mashed 1 cup Hung Curd (Greek Yogurt) 2 tablespoons Honey 4   Digestive Biscuits “McVities” brand, international aisle at Publix and other supermarkets. 2 tablespoons Pistachios      1.   To begin making Banana Digestive Pudding Recipe With Pistachios, combine the mashed bananas, hung curn   (Greek yoghurt) in   a bowl. 2.   To assemble the Banana Digestive Pudding Recipe With Pistachios, take a container   of your choice and add crushed cookies at the bottom of the container. 3.   Next spoon the banana pudding on top of the cookie crumbles and add chopped pistachio nuts on the top. 4.   Refrigerate for two hours before serving the Banana Digestive Pudding Recipe With Pistachios

Some Assembly Required

Image
"Some Assembly Required"  the malevolent words when we order furniture from Wayfair, Ikea, or similar business.  The assembly instructions  strike terror into the hearts of all who are not skilled engineers; and/or those who are not familiar with Egyptian Hieroglyphics.  However the  "Some Assembly Required" instruction made me smile yesterday. Yesterday  (Aug 21st 2021) I was visiting with my  friends Jack and Donna C. and their daughter Ashley A. Two things about Ashley.  1. Her sense of humour is as wacky as mine.  2.   She knows that I am partial to BLT sandwiches.   She presented me a DYI kit.  Lettuce, Tomato, Cooked Bacon and Bread.   The  DIY instructions were clear and unambiguous.  All I needed to do was to toast the bread, smear it with mayonnaise  (Duke's brand of course)  and assemble the sandwich. This I did today, and enjoyed a DYI sandwich for breakfast today (Aug 22nd 2021) Yummy to the max!    Thanks Ashley "me old love". \

SHE DOESN'T MINCE HER WORDS. HE HAD TO EAT HIS WORDS.
