ZION THE JET SETTER

The Sarasota County Humane Society recently  e-mailed me to say that Jan 1st 2022 was Zion's birthday.

That at best is an an estimate arising from Zion's paper trail  from Lafayette to Sarasota,

viz The Lafayette Animal Shelter where he was turned in as a stray; The Acadlana Animal Aid; The Sarasota County Humane Society; and the Sarasota County Sheriffs Animal Service Section.

It's a mixed and confusing trail which asserts that Zion was born in 2014. Maybe Jan 1st is a date of convenience.

What cannot be disputed is that Zion and I have lived together since Jan 18th 2018.  Four years of mutual joy!

One new discovery is that Zion was named before he came to Sarasota.  I had thought that SCHS had given him that moniker,  The paper work tells me that his name was current in Louisiana before he moved to Florida.

BUT HOW DID HE GET TO SARASOTA FROM LOUISIANA?

He was a Jet Setter

See this about the wonderful organisation which delivers pets from misery and death into joy and life.

P.S.

1.  Every day with Zion is a joy.

2.  And yes I get teary eyed  (J. Michael Lachrymose) when I think of Zion homeless and walking the streets of Lafayette. Thank goodness that he was rescued.

BUT

I have to think about the lives of homeless people in Sarasota; and of refugees in so many countries who would love to be Jet Setters to places of joy and freedom.

Why Transport?

Louisiana has a serious pet overpopulation problem. Each year, approximately 40% of shelter pets are euthanized in municipal shelters throughout the state. Transport programs provide a different outcome for these pets – they save lives.

Acadiana Animal Aid is a leader in transporting animals to communities where adopters are plentiful and shelter pets are in high demand. At least twice per month, our dedicated staff and volunteers transport our pets to out-of-state no-kill shelter partners. Through this program, our pets find homes in CO, WA, OR, northern CA, FL, MI and New England.

Our nationally recognized program saves approximately 2,000 shelter pets annually.
