meLange Restaurant in SRQ. THE TOPS

Image
https://www.melangesarasota.com My friends Rick and John and I dined at meLange last evening. (2nd July 2021). It was "over the top excellent". We shared some excellent Bruschetta as a starter; then made our choices. John had melt in your mouth Baby Back Ribs with super mashed potatoes. Rick drooled over, and delighted in his choice of  Salmon with Israeli Black Couscous. I opted for Rabbit Tacos  -  it was a great choice. (Details of the dishes may be found in the menu above). We each were impressed with the service -  it was "professional"; attentive,  friendly but not fussy. meLange ***** Rabbit Tacos.  Note the plate!

KRILL

Image
Zion has a vet prescribed supplement to take care of some leg joint discomfort. It must taste and smell good, as Z gets loopy with excitement when he gets his one chewy per day. The active ingredient boggles my mind.  "PURE ANTARCTIC  KRILL OIL"  Who harvests it, and how is it harvested?  Is it a sustainable harvest? How and where is it processed?  How does it make its way from the Antarctic to my vet in Sarasota, FL?  P.S.  Is it effective? Zion won't let on!

DUH!

THE OLD, AND THE NEW (TO ME).

Image
The Older Those who know me well will remember  that I do not like to waste food. Today I assembled a lunch using "bits and bobs" of food in my pantry, fridge and freezer. Couscous, collard greens, bratwurst -  cooked in a saucepan with  unsweetened coconut milk.  NOT BAD AT ALL;  it could have used a bit of garlic. The Newer to me. My beloved friend the Revd, Gwen W Sears sent me a delightful  article which  she had written, and which was published in her Lenox MA  retirement community newsletter.    They say that "if life gives you lemons, make lemonade". Gwen wasn't given lemons.  But she found half a box of Grape Nuts cereal in her pantry, so she  decided to make the old fashioned Grape Nut Pudding. Gwen's article  inspired me to make my own Grape Nut Pudding; which I had never previously heard of;  let alone eaten. It came out pretty darn good! (Of course all I had to do was to follow a recipe, in my case as printed in Yankee Magazine ).   https://new

NORMAN CHAPTER HOUSE Bristol U.K. Cathedral.

FORTY FIVE YEARS ON. AN ANNIVERSARY

NOTES    (1)  My ordination certificate is beautifully framed, so this photo' is taken from  behind glass, hence its lack of clarity.  (2)  It's the custom in the Church of England for the Bishop to use the name of hos See City on official documents.  The ordaining Bishop in this case was John Tinsley, but here he signs it as "John Bristol". It was forty five years ago to the date that I was ordained Deacon in the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity, Bristol U.K. Some tender memories. 1).Those to be ordained had been at a mandatory retreat since the previous Thursday.  We'd been strictly cloistered. We were transported by mini-bus from the Retreat Centre to the Cathedral on a gorgeous June day.  As we exited the 'bus the Cathedral bells rang out in gorgeous peals.  What a glorious welcome! 2. We dressed for Ordination in a Norman (Romanesque) Chapter Room.  I got shivers thinking about all the Church activity which that room had witnessed for
