HYPOCRISY An English Ecclesiastical bureaucrat and his Scottish wedding. The Church of England sometimes astounds me - --- Do the "high level" people have a sense of irony? Can they taste their own hypocrisy?

Late Breaking News    Ap pointment by the Archbishops of Canterbury and York. "THE next Archbishops’ Secretary for  Appointments  will be Stephen Knott, currently deputy chief of staff to the  Archbishop of Canterbury , it was announced on Thursday.  "Knott has been part of the  Lambeth Palace  staff team since 2013, filling several positions, including assistant and then deputy chief of staff from 2016. Before then, he spent more than a decade working as a researcher in the House of Commons. He grew up in Northern Ireland and studied geography at Queen’s University Belfast. He was an officer in the Royal Naval Reserve from 2011 to 2018, and in July last year, he married Major General Alastair Bruce of Crionaich, Governor of Edinburgh Castle, in St John’s Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, with the Bishop of Edinburgh officiating."  (excerpt from a Church Times article ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- But, and yet In the Ch

SHE PRESENTED UNTO HIM GIFTS. . . Sarasota Style No Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh for me from my bff Ashley. She remembered my silly dream in which I thought that the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church was handing out Bars of Dove Soap, and when in my dream  I reached out for mine I  fell out of bed, conking my head in the process.    Ashley gave me 1.   DOVE SOAP which I will place under my pillow in case the P.B.'s offer returns. 2.  BANDAGES  in the event that I fall out of bed again, bruising my head or my ego. 3.  NEW SHEETS AND PILLOW CASES lest the ones on my bed be yet again soaked with blood. Gifts which are much more practical than Frankincense and Myrrh; though I would not sniff at the Gold!

ZION THE JET SETTER

Image
The Sarasota County Humane Society recently   e-mailed me to say that Jan 1st 2022 was Zion's birthday. That at best is an an estimate arising from Zion's paper trail  from Lafayette to Sarasota,  viz The Lafayette Animal Shelter where he was turned in as a stray; The Acadlana Animal Aid; The Sarasota County Humane Society; and the Sarasota County Sheriffs Animal Service Section. It's a mixed and confusing trail which asserts that Zion was born in 2014. Maybe Jan 1st is a date of convenience. What cannot be disputed is that Zion and I have lived together since Jan 18th 2018.  Four years of mutual joy! One new discovery is that Zion was named before he came to Sarasota.  I had thought that SCHS had given him that moniker,  The paper work tells me that his name was current in Louisiana before he moved to Florida. BUT HOW DID HE GET TO SARASOTA FROM LOUISIANA?   He was a Jet Setter See this about the wonderful organisation which delivers pets from misery and death into joy an

My National Registration Identity Card. Front and back pages Mum's signature as a parent and guardian, 1944.   Her handwriting never changed through all the years. Inner page Born on 26th May 1944 Name and Place of Birth registered  31st May 1944 New address registered  28th December 1945 The top part of the card may have been filled in by a Civil Servant, or it could be in my father's handwriting, The new address is certainly in Mum's handwriting. My Card expired on May 26th 1960, but the Act of Parliament under which such cards had been made mandatory was repealed in 1952

COLESLAW AS YOU'VE NEVER KNOWN IT.

Shredded and chopped White Cabbage.  Three or so tablespoons of Sherry Vinegar.  Two tablespoons of Granulated Sugar. Mayonnaise of course - I favour "Duke's" brand. NOT FORGETTING THE ADDED AND IMPORTANT CRUNCH FACTOR. Three or more handfuls of TRAIL MIX.  (I used the  "Nice" brand from Walgreens with: Sunflower Kernels, Peanuts, Raisins, Cashews, Almonds and Pepitas. Surprise and delight your guests, or snack on it alone!

A DAY LATE but by no means A DOLLAR SHORT

Custom dictates that it should be eaten on 1st January. Eschewing custom I waited until 2nd January. Hoppin' John: Collard Greens, Black Eyed Peas, Smoked Pork. Wonderfully good for any day of the year.  Especially good today.
