Dog Owning Friends Will Understand

Image
I am at my desk in my bedroom. Zion keeps watch outside my bedroom door. I want to move into my kitchen to get a cold drink. But I don't.  Why should I disturb my lovely boy.  My cold drink can wait. Dog owners will understand.  They, like me, will take the long route from one room to another, rather than taking the direct route which our dogs are blocking, Of course!  It's the right thing to do.

Lunch For Three Days

Image
Fish stew. Cod fish at the ridiculously low price of $5.99 per pound from Sarasota's "Detwiler's Farm Market"  ( a "loss leader" perhaps.) With all manner of mixed vegetables (carrots,  cauliflower, green beans, onions, zucchini, yellow peppers, and canned tomatoes), all  cooked in vegetable stock , 'cause my local supermarket was out of fish stock; and two tablespoons of hot salsa to add a bit of "zing". Healthy, tasty, nutritious, and enough for three lunches. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I love to cook one pot meals; or one saucepan soup/stews,  enough to last for three days. Easy on the gourmet side.  Delicious and nutritious on the healthy eating side!

The Secret of a Long Marriage

Image
Via my brother Dave Not the actual couple portrayed in the story   My favorite quote on marriage comes from a local newspaper interview with an elderly couple. A young journalist asked the woman, Rozena Pride, what the secret of her long marriage to Charley was. "The main reason," she responded tartly, "is that neither of us has died."

Dear Zion will have to learn English as a second language after my nonsense chatter as we drive to Frontbay Park. We cross Lime Ave which becomes  EMIL Ave. Main St becomes NIAM Ringling Blvd is LINGRING  Washington is Ingtonwash Pine is Enip We leave Frontbay Park to drive to Parlington Ark We cross Yerpso and I tell Zion that we can't go that way because the out is bridge. Lurning teft onto Vista Bahia we pass the Chugly Urch. St. Paul Lutheran Church, the ugliest Church building in Christendom (or maybe just in Sarasota). Architecture experts call it an example of  "Mid Century Modern". (20th Cent). Paul Lundy designed it. I call it Ecclesiastical Brutalism. Fellowship Hall Sunday School? Zoor Pion at Parlington Ark

As I drive Zion to our walks at Arlington Park or Bayfront Park each morning I subject the poor boy to a travelogue/monologue I tell him that we are on Evaben, and that we will rurn tight at the laffic tright on to Villefruit.  We cross Woodlockridge, and Tletut etc until we get to our desination. It could be Frontbay, or Parlington Ark. My favourite is when I tell him that we are entering the Larking Pot at Parlington Ark. Parlington Ark yesterday.  It's before 7:00 a.m. at the lovely pond. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Feed the birds, tuppence a bag. One of the Parlington Ark neighbours sets out every morning, sometimes when it is yet dark, to feed the birds, the ducks, the handsome cat we see most mornings, the rabbits in the woods,  and Zion.  She always has a treat or two for him.  Once he sees her he remains rooted to the spot until she is near. Yesterday he'd had his treats.  A bit later he spotted the woman as she m
