@#$**!@@ P-b-l-i-x Supermarket

Image
Bought these spuds, allegedly "organic", and all wrapped in a plastic bag from my local P-b-i-x supermarket. "Oh dear", to put in mildly, all green and awful. I returned them and exchanged them for "non organic", two thirds of which were all eyes. I've previously asked the produce manager if it might be possible for the Supermarket chain to sell loose, and not prior bagged produce, so that we "senior singles" could  (a) examine the quality of the produce; and (b) purchase two or three spuds and onions etc rather than a two, or three, or five pound bag. He replied that my question was above his pay grade. Sarasota and Manatee Counties have a small chain called D-T-W-I-L-E-R-S at which the produce is allowed to roam free; but where customers such as I have to be cautious about the quality.  Some of it seems to be a bit beyond its best sale date. I suspect that I'll have to spend a dollar or so more, and shop at one or other of the more up

Amish Women and Food.

October 16, 2020   This, named  "Christmas Penguins".  was the picture on a card I received  in 2019. But I see it  another way.  I call it  Sarasota "Winter Amish Women"  on the beach at Siesta Key. --------------------------------------------------------------- Oh Glory!   Yoder's Market on Bahia Vista St. in Sarasota has Persimmons. Not quite ripe, so I have placed them in a brown paper bag, with an apple.  This is supposed to accelerate the ripening:   I'll let you know. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------  Lunch today.   Trader Joe's vegetarian chili,  served over a long ways cut half of  a baked potato.    Not bad,    In truth  very good!

Pagoda Plant - such beauty

Image
Clerodendrum Paniculatum  ( a.k.a. Pagoda Plant). Earlier this year I planted a Pagoda Plant in the  "circle" which is  in the common area nearest  my home.   As soon as  we members of  the Sarasota based  G len O aks R idge C ondominium   A ssociation  (where I live)   plant anything in   common areas, the plantings no longer belong to individuals , but to the Association. Earlier this year I planted a Pagoda plant in my nearest  Circle.   A bit later the GORA   Landscapers  (a.k.a. men with chain saws) cut the whole thing down, almost to the ground I was annoyed for a long while. But then the Clerodendrum Paniculatum/ Pagoda Plant did its own thing; not only growing to new and more glorious height;   but also sending out underground shoots which are soaring to maturity.   Kewl?

Spanning the Generations

Image
Sarah (Bennett) Povey,  my grandmother b 1881 (ish) The only grandparent I knew. Faith Ruby Amy Thacker, my newest great-niece. Born 12th October 2020. My family includes Nine siblings, including a sister named Sylvia who was born with Spina Bifida in 1942 (?). and died soon after her birth; and my brother Steve who died in 2016. Fourteen nieces/nephews. Twenty one great nieces/ nephews One great, great niece (Phoebe) who was born in September 2019 (Yes, I have a great, great niece who is one year older than a great niece!) Think of this: the family members I know/have known span one hundred and thirty nine years. And six generations:    (3)  My grandmother (2) my parents (3) my siblings (4) my nieces and nephews (5) my great nieces/great nephews (6) my great-great niece.

Say Adieu to the Povey twins

The twins again (final one of three postings of my twin and me). Probably taken in 1955 when we were eleven. My sister had her growth spurt earlier than I. And when I did, I managed to get to a mere 5'7" !

The Twins Again, Taken When We Were about Three Years Old (1947)

Scanned from the original.  Judging by the length of the legs I think that my sister had a rag doll. As enhanced by a member of the Old British Pictures and Photo's website.  (My trousers make it look like I had been messing around in the garden soil)
