This is not about ostriches

Image
Ostrich hens do not bury their heads in the sand to avoid conflict.  Far from it.  They dig nests in the ground to provide a safe place for their eggs. When they are seen with their heads in the sand they are in fact turning the eggs to create equal and safe incubation for each one. My head is in the sand (a place of equality and safety) as I ponder the ghastly and horrid U.S.Senate vote today to confirm Brett Kavanaugh as a Justice on the Supreme Court. What did I find in that sand?  I found a place to centre my heart and soul. It's from a bit of Christian scripture from Paul's letter to the small church in Phillippi. As a would be Christian I try to find the centre of of my heart and soul in these words which have been with me all day),  ( from the King James/Authorised  version  as I learned it all those many years ago in Sunday School). Everglades City is about half way between Naples and Miami.  It is south of Alligator Alley, just off route 41 - the Tamiami Trail. It has a population of 409.  I think that it is an absolute treasure. My family members, who are visiting from Bristol U.K., will be there with me for a twenty four hour visit next week, Here are some photo's of Everglades City in weal.  Tomorrow I'll post pictures of it in woe. Collier County Courthouse .  Everglades City was one the County Town (now it's in Naples) Rod and Gun Club. Everglades City is a mecca for hunters and fishers, Tourist Observation Tower. Truth in advertising

My sister Ruth, her partner of many years Dennis, my nieces Leah and Beth , together with my fabulous great niece Bree (aged 10)    are in the U.S.A.  They are visiting from the U.K.  As I write they are loving life in Orlando.  They will come to see me next week. I have planned some adventures for us.  One will be to go down to Everglades City FL -  once the county town for Collier County - now a town which time mercifully forgot. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everglades_City,_Florida Ruth, Dennis and I were there for a brief visit two years ago.  We liked it very much While we are there we'll have an Everglades Air Boat tour which promises to take us into the "real" Everglades  (we'll see,  some of these tours are not as wonderful as their on line advertisements suggest).  We will also take a boat trip into the so-called Ten Thousand Islands area. Ruth, Dennis and I did this in 2016.  There are many islands  ( not 10,000) but it is so won

Confined to quarters all day

Image
Following red light dermatological procedure yesterday I've been confined to quarters during daylight hours, and will be until Thursday. Zion and I had two good walks before daybreak today. Neighbour Barbara has taken him out for two day time pee walks, dog sitter and unofficial dog whisperer Chris has taken him out for an evening poop walk. Thank goodness for Anna Quindlen. She's taken me to New Jersey for the day. Isabel Allende will be my Wednesday companion.

On Line Dating

Image
At my advanced age I have decided that I am ready for on-line dating. Here is my profile photo'. A winner for certain! Maybe an EMT will date me! In truth this is what I looked like after stage one of my red light dermatological treatment this morning.  The squamous cell carcinomas were treated with some chemical or other, then decked in these protective wraps. Then I was free to go home  before returning for the red light procedure itself two hours later. Each of three malignancies were treated for ten minutes with very hot red light. 'Tis not painful but each spot (two on my forehead, one on my scalp) needed to be spritzed with cold water to abate the heat. After all that here's what one of the spots looks like Hardly dramatic, but you can see that my forehead is redder than usual. Now my part is to stay out of the sun until Thursday morning, and to keep the spots lubricated with Aquafor (a step up from Vaseline) Ain't medi

More Red Light Therapy

Dog walkers arranged, two good books to read, good supply of comestibles, more than adequate  supply of wine. And flight checking all day.    Five of my family members are in the air, traveling from LGW to MCO.     They'll have a week in Orlando/Disneyland, then a week with me in SRQ.
