TEXAS "The Lone Star State" or Maybe Not

Image
Nothing to be proud of after the recent "anti abortion" law;  a law which encourages snoopers: worthy of the mantle of the former DGR Republic.   The Texas Law is  on a par with those of the former DGR  Stasis In other words  "The Stasis Comes to Texas" And I thought that the "American Dream" had no truck with right wing snoopers.  Silly Me!  I'd forgotten the anti-Red   campaigns under Senator Joe McCarthy

FATED (Not Feted or Fetid)

Image
At the risk of boring you  (!)  This is not an old photo'. It was taken today 3rd Sep 2021. Yet more MOHS surgery.  This one was on my right jaw line, where I had to shave a part of my beard in order to give the surgeon free access. She was pleased that I did this.  I have to keep the bandage/plaster in place for 24 hours.   Fat chance.  Plasters/Bandages don't do well on hairy faces! More MOHS in a week on Sep 10th.  'Twill be on my left ear.  Dr. Bogart and I are becoming fast friends. Fated (not Feted or Fetid) Just as soon as I have become pain free from the Sacroiliitis (thanks to a Cortisone injection), I pulled a muscle in my lower back,  on the left hand side. All I did was to pull on a pair of long pants/trousers (I am old fashioned  enough, and respectful enough not to go to a medical appointment in shorts and a tee shirt. Crunch it went.  "Ouch" I have been exclaiming.  'Tis a minor malady on th...

"Digestive Biscuits" a great favorite in the U.K. ( and most likely in Ireland too)

Image
HISTORY    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digestive_biscuit A GREAT U.K. biscuit. PROBABLY  also available and popular in the Republic of Ireland. My favourite semi-sweet wheat biscuit   (now widely available in the USA.) GREAT for swift dunking into hot tea or coffee  (but see the article above) GOOD too with a smear of good butter; and even better with cheese as a pre-dinner "nibble "

Ham with Mustard. Roasted Grape Tomatoes Cauliflower Cheese.  N.B.  The Cauliflower was roasted prior to adding the Cheese Sauce. Roasted Cauliflower  retains its' flavour and "body" more than when it is steamed or boiled

Which Donald Trump Should We Listen To?

Image
The one who is criticizing the withdrawal of U.S. troops under President Biden? Or the one who  facilitated and enabled the release of 5,000 Taliban prisoners? https://www.verifythis.com/article/news/verify/afghanistan/afghanistan-taliban-united-states-deal-5000-prisoners/536-202b0ae9-6251-44d3-a3d0-b9e7d029aed9

PITTSFIELD MA Where I lived and loved from1984 to 2000

Image
1904 Panoramic Photo'   There are a number of Pittsfields in the USA;  and there is the well known Pittsburgh. Each was named for William Pitt the younger; a British Political leader who championed American Independence. Pittsfield MA is the County Town of Berkshire County in Western Mass; a county which has borders with Connecticut, New York State, and Vermont. I cannot remember how the 1904 photo' came into my possession. It is most likely a copy of a copy or a copy of the original, hence it is somewhat faded.  It is an early panoramic photo',  taken in  Park Square; where North/South/East and West Streets converge, The Park itself (foreground) looks barren in this photo' . These days it has mature trees; and wonderful summer plantings (thanks to a volunteer group named "Pittsfield Beautiful")    From L-R in 1904 First Agricultural Bank on the west side of North St when I arrived in 1984. Berkshire County Savings Bank (now Berkshire Ba...

BACK IN MEMORY LAND

Vietnam Trip 2013 I found this today in of all places my Recipe (hard copy) Folder.  I have no idea why and how it got there. It records the final leg of a long flight from Tampa FL to Hanoi.  The last leg was from Bangkok to Hanoi, using Qatar Airways.   What a strange experience; to fly into Hanoi of all places.  Once through Immigrations and Customs the Vietnamese owner of  "Origin Vietnam"  - a good fellow if ever there was one - met me and drove me to my pleasant Hanoi Hotel. Then followed two fabulous and memorable weeks in many parts of Vietnam: Hanoi, Dan Nang and  Saigon (now Ho Chi Min City). It was a terrifically good trip.  COVID aside I would return to Vietnam in a heart beat. My good niece  Cheryl Povey has been to Vietnam twice.  She and I are both fans of that Country!
