Did You Grow Up With One of These in the Kitchen?

Image
e leftover My Mum had one of these in her kitchen. I've just bought a new one to grind/mince leftover Beef for Cottage Pie; or leftover Lamb for Shepherd's Pie. Waste not/ want not eh? We'll all have to go back to the old ways in the coming days of food shortages.  And they will come. Now how to figure out the assembly of this decidedly low tech device.  Thank goodness that I will not need yet another password!

Looks good, but not that great to eat. Cauliflower cheese over mixed vegetables, and Trader Joe's "Turkey Less  Patties" (vegetarian) Cheese sauce too thick and not fluid enough to infuse the Cauliflower. Veggies and Patties not seasoned enough. Nevertheless I ate it, and will eat the leftovers. (The perfect can be the enemy of the good?) I am not a vegetarian or a vegan, but I buy these because they have their own unique and good flavour.  I cooked them first, then cut them up to join the mixed veggies.  Their flavour got lost in the mix.

I ate out  with my friend Ashley Lloyd today to celebrate her birthday.   ( To St. Boniface Church, Sarasota friends; Ashley's parents are Donna and Jack Chrisman). ( To others ; Ashley moved to SRQ from Roanoke, VA to take care of her ageing parents). Ashley and I ate at the Riverhouse in Palmetto, FL.;  a new "joint" for both of us.  It is on the north bank of the Manatee River, immediately opposite the better known Pier 22 which is on the south bank of the river. The Riverhouse from the river. I know that it is considered  to be gauche to add meal photo's to Facebook, but I can't resist.  Ashley and I started by sharing a plate of Oysters on the half shell  -  g  o  o  d! Then to the main courses, both very good.   Ashley's Macaroni and Cheese with Lobster. My Crabcake sandwich with a side of coleslaw. Our obligatory  after lunch photo',  taken by our superb server  Stephanie. The sign outside th...

Home in this case is St. Stephen's Parish, Pittsfield MA. where I was the Rector between 1984 and 2000; in some ways the best years of my ministerial life.     My predecessor the Revd. Andrew Wisseman (later Bishop of Western Massachusetts)  and I each served for sixteen years.  There is a great deal to be said for long tenures. I was at home   (on line) on Aug 29th 2020  for the funeral service for the Rt. Revd. John Tarrant. John, the retired Bishop of South Dakota, was the Interim Rector at St. Stephen's. He died of a heart attack on August 23rd at age 69.He and I were colleagues who knew and respected each other  In these COVID 19 days I could not be in Pittsfield for the funeral; but I could participate on line So I watched the service.  https://youtu.be/wz56PI1wLlA The "Master of Ceremonies" is the current Bishop of Western Massachusetts, the Rt Revd. Douglas Fisher. The Officiant is the Bishop of Long Island, the Rt. Revd. Lawrenc...
