Creeks Don't Get No Respect

Image
A friend is visiting her daughter and grandson in Roanoke, VA. This friend sent me a photo' of the Roanoke River.  I was not impressed. I countered with a photo' of the Philippi Creek in Sarasota. The creek  "don't get no respect", partly because it wends its secret way through residential areas; and partly 'cause it's a "Crick" (Creek) and not a River. (What's in a name?). Sarasotans know it best as it broadens out, and passes under the Tamiami Trail.  You cannot appreciate it whilst driving at 45+ mph. Today I stopped upstream ( upcrick!) to get this photo' of the Philippi Creek as it passes through Pinecraft (our Amish/Mennonite area),  I took it from the north side of Bahia Vista Street;  where the Creek  forms a natural boundary twixt City and County jurisdictions. Not too shabby eh?

Anticipating November Joy

Nov 8/9 TO ATL TO LHR Almost two weeks with family members and friends for the first time in four years. Hoorays, Hurrahs, Huzzahs.  When you are 77 years old, with two older sisters; a twin sister, and three younger brothers  (with an older sister who died before you were born; and a younger brother who died when he was but 63 years old) t ime seems to be so short. When you are 77 years old and you are still in touch with three seminary friends and their wives  from the 1972-1976 era,  t ime seems to be so short. When you are 77 years old and  are still in touch with friends from 1950 and 1955;   and from  the 1970's to the 1980's,  t ime seems to be so short. When all these dear family members and  friends  live in the U.K , and you are getting on on in years it's the time to Carpe Diem.   Covid be damned. Thhe SRQ/ATL/LHR trip will be reversed on Nov 22nd 2021.  Back to Sarasota and to the ...

The Ridiculous and the Sublime

Image
Ridiculous  The underbelly of an Anole on my s creened in porch. ------------------------------- Sublime Zion and I visited our friend Bob at Discovery Village on Sarasota Bay.  We try to do this every week. Zion knows how to turn on the charm when a treat is in store . Bob is one of Z's enablers, as is my neighbour Ruth Ann; together with Kent, and Susan when we meet at Bayfront Park (SRQ); and Christine when we meet at Arlington Park (SRQ). He should be so lucky! They are surely blessed!
