Sadness and Joy Today

Image
SADNESS Today Zion and I had a Canine Therapy visit to Anchin Pavilion ( North Honore Ave, SRQ). There we visit women and men on the Memory Floor, and on the Assisted Living Floor. This was our first visit after a hiatus of a couple of months: partly due to COVID 19 restrictions; and partly because of my Sacroiliitis  which had made my walking to be very painful. I was sad.  Three of my beloved memory unit friends had died since our last therapy visit. Of course they did not know me.  But I knew them. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- JOY! Despite the heavy rain Z and I took afternoon walk today at Sarasota's lovely Arlington Park.  We walked anti-clockwise on the 1/2 mile footpath so that we could get a bit of shelter on a heavily wooded section.  We encountered a group of Sarasota High School students who walking clockwise. Their obvious leader stopped, and asked me  "is this dog called...

Donuts to the max: a treat for my friends on Sep `16th

Image
M-rk and J-lie C are visiting from England to see their family members J-ck, Do-na, and A-hley. I bought them some over the top donuts from http://fiveodonutco.com Funny thing is that I am not crazy about donuts so I ate the ring shaped "almost cruller',  which was perfect for dunking in my coffee

Mystery Solved

Image
The heretofore anonymous donor of a Jar of Gooseberry Conserve has fessed up. His identity surprised me.  He is Bill T.  a parishioner at St. Stephen's Parish, Pittsfield MA and a former Superintendent of Schools for the City of Pittsfield, and later for the Mount Greylock (MA) School District. He is a good and wise man.  His wife Nancy T was a well respected Professor at the Berkshire Community College. She and I share a love for the poems of Richard Wilbur. Bill claims to have flown to London and back to secure my Jam.  He is a fibber! Good "prank" Bill. I'd have never guessed you to be the Gooseberry Jam Chief Source! 😊

Better Late than Never (MY ENCOUNTER WITH Hand Held Food, Long before Burgers were commonplace)

Image
11th September 2021  My first encounter with Tamales (the ultimate hand held food);    centuries after they were created. Burger King; Mc Donalds and Wendy's are take out  "Johnny Come Lately" rivals to the centuries old TAMALE.   “Tamale” is derived from  the word  tamalii,  an Aztec word meaning “wrapped food.” Though we are not certain when or who invented the tamale, we do know tamales were written about since pre-Columbian days.  They are the ancient "take out" grub. Aztecs served Spaniard soldiers tamales during visits to Mexico in the 1550’s. Tamales were eaten by soldiers on long sojourns into Mexico as they  are portable and easy to heat. SEE THIS  https://wearecocina.com/lifestyle/tamales-a-rich-history/ Just about ten centuries late I had my very first Tamales (a Saturday Special  at  Sarasota's wonderful "REYNA'S TAQUEIERA") https://reynastaqueria.com My verdict? The Tamales were mor...
