Better Late than Never (MY ENCOUNTER WITH Hand Held Food, Long before Burgers were commonplace)
11th September 2021 My first encounter with Tamales (the ultimate hand held food); centuries after they were created.
Burger King; McDonalds and Wendy's are take out "Johnny Come Lately" rivals to the centuries old TAMALE.
“Tamale” is derived from the word tamalii, an Aztec word meaning “wrapped food.” Though we are not certain when or who invented the tamale, we do know tamales were written about since pre-Columbian days. They are the ancient "take out" grub.
Aztecs served Spaniard soldiers tamales during visits to Mexico in the 1550’s. Tamales were eaten by soldiers on long sojourns into Mexico as they are portable and easy to heat.

Just about ten centuries late I had my very first Tamales (a Saturday Special at Sarasota's wonderful "REYNA'S TAQUEIERA")
My verdict?
The Tamales were more than good.
Reyna's Chicken Tamale; ready to eat.
BUT ON THE WHOLE I prefer Reyna's superb Quesadillas
