Saturday is Kitchen Day. Some for me, but most to share.

Image
On Saturdays I make Soup and a Main Course for my friends Jack, Donna, and Ashley. There is always enough for them, and plenty to share with some  neighbours who live alone;  ( S ome for me of course!) It's not altruism.   Those of us who like to cook,  love to do so for others. Kale and Leek Soup.  Healthy food in every spoonful!                                  Macaroni and Cheese with Crab Meat.

YOU ARE FIRED!

JMP - this genetically and behaviorally endowed people pleaser broke free today. My PCP referred me to a particular Orthopedist with regard to my continuing Sacroiliitis.  (OUCH) I saw him last Wednesday.  I was not impressed.  He slouched into the consulting room (at a private office)  wearing surgical scrubs. He did not introduce himself.   He asked me why I was in his office.  I told him.  He tapped away at his computer.  Then he asked me again why I was in his office. I told him about my treatment last year ( with a practice which is not in my Insurance network). He made a critical remark about that practice, even after seeing a disc of the X-rays which they had taken. Then he ordered new X-rays and an MRI.  That's probably necessary. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that I was  extremely uncomfortable with his "bedside manner". So this people pleaser decided to please himself. ...

A Perfect Lunch: 2nd Feb 2020

Image
Simple Sandwich Lunch  at home.   It does not get much better than this.   A Tomato and Rosemary Ham Sandwich. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pepperidge Farm White Bread.   Duke's Mayo.  The best Rosemary Ham from Trader Joe's.   Excellent to the Max! Kumatoes.   So tender skinned.  So juicy. So filled with flavour. A  ham and tomato sandwich.   Who could ask for anything more?

My Tenuous Rhode Island Connections (and two of their Episcopal Bishops)

Image
The Episcopal Church in Bristol, Rhode Island is St. Michael's.  In my more whimsical moods I thought that I was a natural to become their Rector.  "Michael from Bristol, U.K. at St. Michael's Bristol, R.I.  What fun. Except that I would need to hide one of my wee possessions in the event of long institutional memories in Bristol, R.I. Gift from the Perry Family. It would not look good on the mantlepiece of the Rectory! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Perry Family (and their R.I Bishop) The Perrys  have long and historic roots in Rhode Island. One of the Perry family was James DeWolf Perry.  He was the (Episcopal) Bishop of  Rhode Island from 1911-1946 (back in the day when Bishops served long terms). Bishop Perry was also the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church from 1930 -1937 - in those good days when Presiding  Bishops were also Diocesan Bishops. One of the sons of Bishop Perry and his wife ...

Peanut Butter and What? A new riff on an old favourite.

Peanut Butter and Mango/Ginger Chutney Sandwich.  On white bread of course. By no means gourmet.  But utterly delicious.
