More About Dave's "KILLER BREAD" (even as I salivate!)

Image
SO VERY GOOD! It's the bread I featured  in my recent "Simple Lunch" blog https://draft.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/5256576573761778510/362223070346467548 Long time friend Sharon J responded by telling me that she and her husband also think that this bread is "the tops", and that they had met Dave himself in Oregon where the bread is made (not in California as I had asserted). This led me to read some of the small print on the bread wrapper.  WOW  -  Dave himself is an ex-con. He guided the company into hiring other  ex-cons; thus creating worth while jobs for those who are all too often deemed to be unemployable. See this:   https://www.daveskillerbread.com/about-us Dave's Bread is a Second Chances employer. YEAH! https://www.daveskillerbread.com/secondchances The Company is now part of the FLOWERS GROUP, headquartered in Thomasville GA.  (Hi Ann Albritton!, a friend who lives there). If You Like Cheeses, try Humboldt Fog .

Image
"HUMBOLDT FOG" GOAT CHEESE FROM CALIFORNIA. This cheese is new to me.  I bought some for me, and some to share. My friends D.  J.   A.    and I find it to be utterly delicious. Were it not so expensive we could become addicted. It can be bought in person or by mail here: https://www.artisancheesecompany.com/about ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is what Cheese.com has to say about it "Humboldt Fog® is a goat’s milk cheese delivered by Cypress Grove Chevre, of Arcata, California, in Humboldt County. It is a mould-ripened cheese with a distinguishing layer of edible ash. The cheese ripens from the outside to the centre, resulting in a fresh goat cheese centre surrounded by a pungent runny shell. This runny shell will widen as the cheese matures and is considered the best part of the cheese, by many. The bloomy mold and ash rind is edible but is fairly tasteless. The chee...

We Adopted Each Other Four Years Ago Today

Image
To paraphrase  Scripture out of context.   From the story of Ruth and her mother in law Naomi "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.  God help me  if anything but death separates you and me."

Humour

My buddy Tom was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business. He knew that he would inherit a fortune once his sickly father died. Tom wanted two things: • to learn how to invest his inheritance and, • to find a wife to share his fortune. One evening at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Her natural beauty took his breath away. "I may look like just an ordinary man," he said to her, "but in just a   few years, my father will die, and I'll inherit 20 million dollars." Impressed, the woman obtained his business card. Two weeks later, she became his stepmother. Women are so much better at estate planning than men…

The Delicious Sounds Which Made my Day!

Image
17th January 2022 I placed a mail order by 'phone  (partly because the company's web site was tricky to navigate). My 'phone call had  an unexpected bonus.  Even as the clerk and I worked to place the order I was delighted with some background  music . My order completed I asked the clerk "are you working from home?" She was.  I thanked her for the lovely gurgling sounds of a baby who was " chattering " for the duration of the transaction .  Such a bonus! I smiled  because  of the  baby  serenade; the clerk smiled on account of my comments.   Win/Win eh? https://youtu.be/3H4qOHdrqvs A sample baby serenade.

Does the Moral Arc of the Universe Bend Towards Justice? I DOUBT IT

Image
The words were first penned by Theodore Parker (Unitarian Minister) 1810 -1860) I do not pretend to understand the moral universe; the arc is a long one, my eye reaches but little ways; I cannot calculate the curve and complete the figure by the experience of sight; I can divine it by conscience. And from what I see I am sure it bends towards justice.    Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr used all or some of Parker's words in some of his speeches.  But contrary to many attributions,  he did not pen them   They are fine  words. At best they are a pious hope. At worst they are an excuse for inaction, if the bending towards justice is inevitable.   SELMA 1965 TWIN CITIES  2020 NO DISCERNABLE BEND in 65 YEARS. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dr. Martin Luther King Day 2022 is a call to action, not to pious hopes.
