I assisted at St. Boniface Church on Siesta Key at the 9:00 a.m. Eucharist today, reading the Gospel and ministering the Chalice at Communion.

It felt good. St. B’s is a large and progressive parish, and I have a high respect for the Rector, Ted Copeland. This is now my “home”

There is an old tree at the back of my house which bears avocados. Five of them dropped to the ground in today’s rainstorm. I harvested them; and then gave three away, keeping two for myself.

We’ve had a local chain of 27 Convenience stores in this neck of the woods. It was privately owned and operated under the name of “Site”. Their prices have been fair and their staff very friendly.

The owner decided to retire, so he sold his chain to a national group called “7/11”.

(7/11 was founded in California, with the daring idea that Convenience Stores should open at 7:00 a.m., and close at 11:00 p.m.).

Now that the Site Stores have become 7/11 all the staff is new, and the prices have rocketed. I’ll not be shopping there again.

When will they ever learn?

I bought a “Remington” moustache and beard trimmer today - my old one having ceased to work.

“Remington” is a trusted name, the price was right, and the product will probably be good.

But “oh that packaging”. You know what I mean – that ghastly, horrible hard plastic packaging. The stuff which cuts your hands as you try to tear it apart.

Why, oh why, do manufacturers use that “user unfriendly” packing?

When will they ever learn?

Finicky cats.

I have been buying the top of the line canned and dried foods for Ada and Adelaide.

It’s sold as “Science Diet”

But my dear cats started to shun their luxury food.

So now I am buying the common or garden “Friskies”, which they gobble down.

My beloved cats are finicky, but they seem to be entirely contented after dinner!

    The cats may know best. For years I tried to be oh-so-virtuous in my choice of cat food. Then my vet told me that cats need protein and that many top-of-the line foods don't offer much more than Friskies etc. in the way of nutrition.

Last year I consulted with a local podiatrist: Dr. Robert F Herbold Jr. D.P.M. 4717 Swift Rd., Sarasota , FL – 34231  because I was being bothered with a couple of bunions  (yes I am at that age). I was very impressed with this Doctor.  He agreed that I had bunions, but he ventured that it was much too soon for surgery. (Now there’s a first). Instead he recommended some “arch supports” to relieve the tension for my feet, a tension which was exacerbating the bunions. The background   I have known the Keller/Bonsey family since 2000 when I became the Rector at St. James's, Cambridge, MA. They (Elisabeth Keller and the Revd. Steven Bonsey with their four children Noah, Sam, Josiah and Annie) had come back to Cambridge from Hawaii where Steve had been the Rector of an Episcopal parish. Steve had just been appointed as a Chaplain at Tufts University (no Sunday morning duties) so the entire family was able to enrich our common life at St. James's - which they did with great love and joy. I count them as friends and have stayed in touch with them since my retirement.  Noah, the oldest son is eloquent in Arabic (he spent a year in Damascus when Syria was a safe place).  He has developed a super career as an analyst of social media in the near East.    Noah worked in Tampa for a while a few years ago, so he and I were able to get together a few

It began in Bristol U.K. "A man dies" and "Jesus Christ Superstar"

I well remember the swirling controversy in Bristol, U.K. when a (Presbyterian) Minister the Revd, Earnest Marviin created a ":Rock Opera", called "A Man Dies"  in and for his congregation in the Lockleaze area of Bristol, U.K. Earnest Mrvin I was a sixteen years old member of the Plymouth Brethren Church back in those days, so I most likely disapproved of "A Man Dies" .  We, (the Plymouth Brethren),  disapproved of everything! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had forgotten all about "A Man Dies" until earlier today when saw these pictures on the "Bristol, Then and Now"  Facebook page.   St. James Presbyterian Church, Lockleaze, Bristol  The Bristol Then and Now page includes the following commentary: Lockleaze, Bristol  -  'Jesus Christ Superstar' began at St.James (Presbyterian) Chur
