Brave Space not Safe Space

AN INVITATION TO BRAVE SPACE,  by Micky ScottBey Jones

Together we will create brave space

Because there is no such thing as "safe space"
We exist in the real world
We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.
In this space
We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world,
We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,
We call each other to more truth and love
We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.
We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.
We will not be perfect.
This space will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be
But
It will be our brave space together,
And
We will work on it side by side.

One of the blessings of being an early riser is that I get to listen to Krista Tippett's "ON BEING" programme. It is broadcast on WUSF radio in Sarasota  at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday Mornings.  It's food for the soul.

Krista Tippett

Today's programme was especially delicious.  It ended with Micky ScottBey Jones' wonderful prose poem  (see above).
The programme was a realistic and subversive beacon of light; a deep and powerful alternative to the darkness which is the modus operandi of the ruling classes in the U.K. and the U.S.A.

If you are not familiar with "On Being"  I urge you to read,  or listen to today's programme at https://onbeing.org/series/podcast/

You do not have to be religious to enjoy the wisdom of this programme. Being human will be enough.

The closing poem should be enough to stir, strengthen  and inspire your mind and soul.

Here it is again:
Together we will create brave space
Because there is no such thing as "safe space"
We exist in the real world
We all carry scars and we have all caused wounds.
In this space
We seek to turn down the volume of the outside world,
We amplify voices that fight to be heard elsewhere,
We call each other to more truth and love
We have the right to start somewhere and continue to grow.
We have the responsibility to examine what we think we know.
We will not be perfect.
This space will not be perfect.
It will not always be what we wish it to be
But
It will be our brave space together,
And

We will work on it side by side.
